Douze personnes travaillent cinq semaines durant pour assembler ce costume, intitul\u00e9 <em>From the Land of the Hummingbird<\/em>, recouvert de plumes fa\u00e7onn\u00e9es \u00e0 la main. Ce costume marque un tournant pour lui, jusque-l\u00e0 connu pour avoir remport\u00e9, \u00e0 treize ans, le premier prix d&#8217;originalit\u00e9 d&#8217;un carnaval pour enfants avec un d\u00e9guisement de sorcier africain confectionn\u00e9 en carton, en d\u00e9corations de No\u00ebl et en herbes s\u00e9ch\u00e9es. Il \u00e9tudie au Queen&#8217;s Royal College de Port d&#8217;Espagne avant de partir \u00e0 vingt et un ans pour Londres, o\u00f9 il se forme au d\u00e9cor de th\u00e9\u00e2tre \u00e0 la Central School of Art and Design. Sa double origine reste une part assum\u00e9e de son identit\u00e9.<\/p><p>Dans un t\u00e9moignage publi\u00e9 en f\u00e9vrier 2026 par le journal guyanien Stabroek News, Peter Minshall se d\u00e9crit lui-m\u00eame comme un hybride rare, une cr\u00e9ature aux multiples couches, pr\u00e9cieuse comme une perle. Cette double appartenance, \u00e0 la Guyana par la naissance et \u00e0 Trinit\u00e9-et-Tobago par toute une vie de cr\u00e9ation, explique pourquoi certains, encore aujourd&#8217;hui, r\u00e9clament pour lui une reconnaissance officielle du c\u00f4t\u00e9 guyanien. Le photographe Roy Boyke \u00e9crira que l&#8217;\u0153uvre d&#8217;aucun autre cr\u00e9ateur n&#8217;aura eu un impact aussi imm\u00e9diat et aussi br\u00fblant.<\/p><p>Il encha\u00eene ensuite, dans les ann\u00e9es 1980, une trilogie construite autour du fleuve, avec des personnages devenus c\u00e9l\u00e8bres comme <em>Mancrab<\/em>, une cr\u00e9ature mi-homme mi-crabe m\u00e9canique qui menace la rivi\u00e8re. Pour donner du mouvement \u00e0 ces costumes, il introduit dans le mas trinidadien des mat\u00e9riaux jusque-l\u00e0 in\u00e9dits, tiges de fibre de verre, cannes \u00e0 p\u00eache, tubes en acrylique, film polyester r\u00e9fl\u00e9chissant. Il r\u00e9sumera un jour sa conception du carnaval en une phrase, le masman d\u00e9pend d&#8217;une famille et d&#8217;une tribu, et la famille et la tribu d\u00e9pendent du
