Le 16 octobre 2026, \u00e0 la National Academy for the Performing Arts de Port-d&#8217;Espagne, la Premi\u00e8re ministre de la Barbade a ensuite demand\u00e9 que cette chanson de 1963 entre dans les programmes du Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC). Elle voulait que chaque enfant de la r\u00e9gion en comprenne \u00e0 la fois la douleur et la mission. Elle s&#8217;est tourn\u00e9e vers Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Premi\u00e8re ministre de Trinidad &amp; Tobago, pour convaincre ensemble leurs homologues. Celle-ci a r\u00e9pondu qu&#8217;elle travaillerait avec ses coll\u00e8gues carib\u00e9ens. Mia Mottley a aussi salu\u00e9 l&#8217;art du picong, ces joutes verbales piquantes qui font partie de la culture carib\u00e9enne. Elle a rappel\u00e9 \u00ab Dan Is the Man in the Van \u00bb, une satire de l&#8217;\u00e9ducation coloniale. Mighty Sparrow y tournait en d\u00e9rision les comptines et les r\u00e9cits appris \u00e0 l&#8217;\u00e9cole, loin du quotidien des enfants. Le rapprochement est frappant. Son nom figure parmi les artistes de calypso du syllabus de musique du CSEC. L&#8217;enjeu n&#8217;est donc pas de faire d\u00e9couvrir l&#8217;artiste aux \u00e9l\u00e8ves, mais de donner \u00e0 une chanson pr\u00e9cise une place explicite dans l&#8217;enseignement de l&#8217;histoire et de la m\u00e9moire. Reste \u00e0 d\u00e9terminer dans quelle mati\u00e8re \u00ab The Slave \u00bb pourrait \u00eatre enseign\u00e9e, aupr\u00e8s de quels \u00e9l\u00e8ves et avec quels supports.
