Shenseea

Shenseea: the Caribbean music scene is abuzz, and her name resonates with unrivalled force. The Jamaican artist has once again made history, winning the title of “Best Caribbean Artist” at the prestigious MOBO Awards 2025 ceremony. A triumph that not only consecrates her exceptional talent, but also testifies to her growing impact on the international scene.

A historic double at the MOBO Awards

This isn’t the first time Shenseea has graced the MOBO Awards stage. In 2021, she was crowned “Best Reggae Artist”, becoming the first woman to win this distinction since the event’s inception in 1996. This year, she repeats her feat in the renowned “Best Caribbean Artist” category, beating the likes of Valiant, YG Marley, Popcaan, Skillibeng and Spice.

“I’ve always dreamed of winning a MOBO Award! Knowing that I have two now, I’m blessed beyond measure and extremely grateful for the love and recognition they show my music,” Shenseea told the Jamaica Observer.

The consecration of a versatile artist

Her success is not limited to her MOBO Awards victories. Her meteoric rise is the result of hard work, boundless creativity and a unique ability to fuse musical genres. Navigating with ease between dancehall, pop and R&B, she has conquered an ever-widening audience, both in the Caribbean and abroad.

Last September, her 2019 hit “Shenyeng Anthem”, produced by Chimney Records, was certified silver in the UK by the British Phonographic Industry, with sales and streaming exceeding 200,000 units. A feat that testifies to her growing popularity on British soil, where she performed to sold-out crowds in London and Birmingham last year.

Critically acclaimed for its musical diversity and production quality, the album earned Shenseea a Grammy Award nomination in the “Best Reggae Album” category.  The ultimate accolade for the Jamaican artist, who becomes the first woman in her country to be nominated in this category in the same year she wins a MOBO Award.

"Puni Police": A hit single

Alongside her album success, she continues to rock the charts with her singles. Her latest track, “Puni Police”, produced by Di Genius, is a runaway success on YouTube and has even entered the Urban chart in Germany.

“Everyone seems to love the subject matter. My favorite comment so far is from someone who says I seem to have a song for everything people are going through. I’m glad they can relate to my music,” Shenseea confided.

Shenseea: A source of inspiration for future generations

Beyond her awards and commercial success, she is an inspirational figure for young Caribbean artists and women the world over. Her career is a testament to the power of determination, perseverance and self-confidence. By breaking barriers and pushing back boundaries, she is paving the way for a new generation of talented and ambitious artists.

This year’s ceremony took place at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena and was hosted by the dynamic duo Eddie Kadi and Indiyah Polack. A moment of festivity and celebration that put the spotlight on the most promising talents on the black music scene.

Vybz Kartel wins Impact Award

Alongside Shenseea’s coronation, dancehall legend Vybz Kartel was also honored at the MOBO Awards 2025. The artist, currently incarcerated, received the prestigious Impact Award, in recognition of his considerable influence on Caribbean music and culture.

This recognition testifies to the indelible imprint Vybz Kartel has left on the Jamaican musical landscape, despite the controversies and obstacles he has faced.

Martinique – “Sa sa pé foutew”: the Creole formula powered by Netflix carried by Bandi

With Bandi, a 2026 Netflix series set in Martinique, eight episodes have taken a Martinican Creole expression far beyond its native territory. “Sa sa pé foutew” means much more than “What’s it to you? It’s a way of setting a limit, sometimes with humor, sometimes with firmness, but always with an element of identity. Three words, one border Three Creole words, one question, and one attitude. When the Bandi series arrived on Netflix in 2026, it brought with it a phrase that many Martiniquais recognize: “sa sa pé foutew”. For some, it’s pride. For others, it’s a silent victory.
