Event Details
The Tobago Heritage Festival 2026 will take place from July 16 to August 1, 2026, in several communities across Tobago, in Trinidad and Tobago. This 39th edition, organized around the theme “Leh We Tell De Whole Story,” highlights the passing down of the island’s traditions, stories, and cultural practices. For just over two weeks, residents and visitors are invited to enjoy a program of events spread across various villages.
Tobago Heritage Festival 2026: An Event You Won’t Want to Miss
The program for the Tobago Heritage Festival combines traditional storytelling, folk music, dance, community theater, and reenactments of local customs. Highlights include the opening night, the Ole Time Heritage Fair, the Folk Fiesta, the Heritage Calypso Monarch, and the Tobago Ole Time Carnival J’ouvert & Mas. The Ole Time Wedding, one of the festival’s iconic reenactments, is also among the traditions celebrated during this time.
Through these artistic and folk traditions, the Tobago Heritage Festival showcases the African, East Indian, Chinese, and Indigenous heritages that have shaped Tobago’s cultural identity. The event is aimed at families, people interested in Caribbean history, lovers of traditional music, and visitors seeking a deeper understanding of the cultural life of local communities. Because it is organized on an island-wide scale, it allows several villages to share their traditional skills, oral history, and culinary practices.
The 2026 festival is scheduled to conclude on August 1 with the Emancipation Day parade, a highlight commemorating the abolition of slavery in the English-speaking Caribbean. The detailed program, specific locations, schedules, and admission requirements can be found on the official website of the Tobago Festivals Commission.
