37th CBU Media Awards: 4 awards for Richès Karayib.

In its first appearance at the 37th CBU Media Awards, Richès Karayib walked away with four honors: two Awards and two Special Mentions. The results were announced on August 19 in Georgetown, Guyana, during a ceremony that was broadcast and streamed throughout the region. This debut immediately established the media outlet as one of the standout newcomers at this 37th edition. Caribbean Broadcasting Union: 4 Challenges for the Future of Caribbean Media

From August 17 to 19, 2026, Georgetown hosted the 57th General Assembly of the Caribbean Broadcasting Union. Gathering under the theme “Caribbean Media and AI,” media executives, journalists, content creators, academics, and experts examined how their practices are being shaped by this transformation. Behind the concept of artificial intelligence, one question emerged: how to strengthen Caribbean media so that they can remain credible, independent, and sustainable in a changing digital environment. When AI Enters Caribbean Newsrooms In Georgetown, Guyana’s President, Mohamed Irfaan Ali, summarized a key challenge. Artificial intelligence can help newsrooms transcribe and translate content, analyze data, and improve efficiency. But it must not replace editorial judgment, context, or human experience. His warning was clear: “Never allow the technology to become the journalist.” This message aligns with a priority of the Caribbean Broadcasting Union: to promote responsible uses of AI while strengthening verification mechanisms and transparency regarding generated content.

Voltaire Falls: 70 km of trail to reach the waterfalls.

In Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni, the journey to the Voltaire Falls begins well before the first waterfall. From the town, the Paul Isnard Trail leads into the forest for about 70 kilometers. After being closed to the public for several years, the site has just reopened following a restoration program led by the Territorial Collectivity of French Guiana. The goal is threefold: to make the trail safer, to better accommodate visitors, and to showcase this natural site all without losing what gives this place its unique character. 70 kilometers before the trailhead The figure illustrates the scale.
