The Martinique jazz scene has recently been highlighted by the captivating “Jazz An Ba Tol” events, a festival aligning with the dynamic appreciation of Afro-Caribbean culture through music. Starting with its first edition in November 2023 and followed by a second chapter in February 2024, this event has touched the spirits and hearts of jazz enthusiasts.

Edition 2023-2024

The Awakening of Senses: First Edition (November 2023)

Held at the Jardin de Monique in François, the first edition was an eye-opener, skillfully blending improvisation, sharing, and cultural discoveries. Described as a “culture, art, and creation research lab,” the event provided a platform for passionate and dedicated Afro-Caribbean jazz artists. Beyond music, attendees enjoyed art exhibitions and dance performances, enriching the overall experience.

Continuity and Innovation: Second Edition (February 2024)

The second edition, also at Le Jardin de Monique, carried on with significant innovations. Focusing on artistic plurality, it featured electro-urban music shows, painting and lithotherapy sessions, as well as urban and contemporary dance performances. Renowned artists like Georges Granville and Thérèse Henry contributed their talents, reflecting the diversity and richness of jazz heritage.

Looking Ahead

“Jazz An Ba Tol” continues to stand out as a privileged space for cultural expression and transmission.

Through its editions, the festival invites reflection on Afro-Caribbean identity while promoting an intergenerational exchange space.

Future editions are eagerly anticipated, promising new artistic and cultural explorations.

The ambition of “Jazz An Ba Tol” is not only to establish itself as a significant event in the Martinique cultural calendar but also as a crucial meeting point for Afro-Caribbean jazz on a regional and international scale.
