Dominica’s Cruise Season 2024-2025 Sets Sail with Excitement

A Record-Breaking Year for Tourism and Economic Growth

Roseau, Dominica (October 9, 2024) — Dominica has officially kicked off its 2024-2025 cruise season with the arrival of Celebrity Summit. The celebration will include a voice note from Marva Williams and photos showcasing Dominica.

The 2023-2024 season ended on a high note, with Dominica welcoming 306,601 cruise visitors between October 2023 and April 2024, an impressive 11% increase over the previous season. These numbers also represent a 62% increase compared to pre-pandemic figures from 2019-2020, highlighting the growing appeal of Dominica as a must-visit cruise destination. December 2023 was a standout month, attracting over 71,000 visitors. Notably, the season also featured sixteen inaugural visits from notable ships such as MS Vista and MSC Explora I, which helped to elevate the island’s profile within the cruise industry.

This influx of visitors generated an estimated $20.4 million for the local economy, benefiting numerous businesses and tour operators.

 

Economic Impact More than 247,000 passengers disembarked to explore the island, with over half of them participating in organized tours, which provided an enriched experience while supporting local enterprises. “As we welcome the new cruise season, I am filled with excitement and pride for our beautiful island. The remarkable growth in our tourism sector reflects our team and partners’ dedication and hard work. Each visitor gives us a chance to showcase Dominica’s rich culture, stunning scenery, and genuine hospitality,” said Marva Williams, CEO of Discover Dominica Authority. “Together, we will create memorable experiences that inspire our guests to return and share their stories. Let’s continue to work together to position Dominica as a premier cruise destination.”

To celebrate the beginning of the new season, the Discover Dominica Authority is hosting a series of activities on Dame Eugenia Charles Boulevard (Bayfront) from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. These festivities include musical performances, drumming, and rum tasting, offering a taste of Dominica’s vibrant culture to cruise visitors.

Service Excellence Initiatives and International Collaboration

Considerable efforts have been made during the off-season to enhance the quality of services and ensure a successful 2024-2025 cruise season. The Discover Dominica Authority hosted the “Elevate Your Service” Training Series and the 2024 Cruise Service Providers Symposium, with 189 service providers completing training aimed at fostering a culture of service excellence—a crucial aspect of encouraging repeat visits. Additionally, Dominica’s commitment to positioning itself as a premier cruise destination is underscored by its active participation in international events. Representatives, including Benoit Bardouille, CEO of Dominica Air and Sea Ports Authority, and Odile Jno Baptiste, Product Promotions Manager at Discover Dominica Authority, attended the FCCA PAMAC Summit in Jamaica, facilitating vital business discussions to strengthen ties with cruise lines.

Tourism Site Upgrades and Commitment to Growth

The Ministry of Tourism has implemented upgrades at major tourist sites to further enhance visitor experiences. Improvements include better access roads, upgraded reception facilities, and well-maintained trails, ensuring that visitors can fully appreciate Dominica’s natural beauty. With these dedicated efforts, Dominica’s cruise season is poised for success, creating unique and memorable experiences for every visitor while significantly boosting the local economy.
