FOTOTRAS 2025: Guadeloupe celebrates auteur photography under the banner of metamorphosis

Fototras

From October 30 to November 29, 2025, Guadeloupe will become the crossroads of visual gazes and narratives for the 2แต‰ edition of the Fototras Festival, brought to you by the associations FOTOLIB and Diaspo’ART.
A whole month to celebrate auteur-rice photography through exhibitions, conferences, screenings, workshops, portfolio readings and partner events, in a spirit of sharing, creation and emotion.

A collective adventure born of two Caribbean passions

In a context where artistic photography is still little appreciated in the archipelago, the Diaspo’ART and FOTOLIB associations have joined forces to offer Guadeloupe an unprecedented space for expression and transmission.
After the success of the first edition in 2024, this new event aims to go even further: to stimulate photographic creation, promote the diversity of visual writing and open up a dialogue between artists, audiences and professionals from all over the Caribbean and beyond.
Through Fototras, Guadeloupe asserts its role as a land of art and thought, where images become a common language.

MORFOZE: the theme of a world in transformation

Inspired by Patrick Chamoiseau’s quote – “It’s not in transparency that we discover the world, but in thickness”, the theme of this year’s event is MORFOZE, a profound reflection on contemporary metamorphoses.
The festival invites us to observe the world not on its surface, but in its layers, tensions and silences.
Conflicts, climatic upheavals, social or digital mutations: Fototras explores the visible and invisible tremors that are reshaping our times.
Each work becomes a fragment of this grand collective narrative, a sensitive testimony to the transformations at work in our societies.

Saint Lucia Carnival 2026: 22 Days to Give a Voice to Saint Lucia

From July 1 to 22, the 2026 Saint Lucia Carnival marks one of the islandโ€™s most eagerly anticipated cultural events. For three weeks, the island builds up to the big parade days, but the carnival is about more than just the final spectacle of costumes in the streets. It takes shape beforehand, through rehearsals, competitions, neighborhood celebrations, and the voices that bring Castries to life. Even before the bands take to the streets, the carnival makes itself heard. A soca track drifts from a cell phone to a bus. Artists test out their songs. Groups fine-tune the final details. In Saint Lucia, the carnival doesnโ€™t happen all at once. It builds until it becomes a collective voice. A cultural seasonโ€”not just a parade The official program for the 2026 Saint Lucia Carnival announces a full season, featuring calypso and soca competitions, community events, Junior Carnival, Jโ€™Ouvert, King and Queen of

“Bashment”: The Jamaican Word That Turns a Party Into a Dancehall

Standing in front of a sound system, someone calls out, โ€œTonight, we a go a bashment.โ€ The phrase seems simple. Yet it means so much more than just a night out with friends. In Jamaica, this word opens a door: the door to dancehall, to bodies moving to the bass, and to a popular culture that has become a shared language. Whether on the street, in a courtyard, near a wall of speakers, or in a packed venue, the โ€œbashmentโ€ often begins before the first song. Itโ€™s already evident in the way people dress, greet one another, and arrive in groups. No one needs a long speech. If you say youโ€™re going to a bashment, everyone understands that it will require energy, rhythm, and presence. A word that goes beyond translation Literally, the word refers to a party. English-language dictionaries also associate it with dancehall. The Jamaican Patwah Dictionary defines

Canada-CARICOM: Security, Climate, and the Economy at the Heart of the New Plan

In the Caribbean, a high energy bill can slow down a business. A storm can cut off a road, block a port, or jeopardize a harvest. A security crisis can also extend beyond the borders of a single country. It is against this daily reality that the Canada-CARICOM dialogue is taking on a new dimension today. Meeting in Panama City on the sidelines of the 2026 General Assembly of the Organization of American States, the foreign ministers of Canada and CARICOM sought to reinvigorate their strategic partnership. At the heart of their discussions was an action plan focused on three major priorities for the region: security, climate, and the economy. Cooperation Aimed at Achieving Concrete Results The Canada-CARICOM partnership builds on the strategic agreement launched in 2023. But the 2026 meeting marks an important milestone: both parties now want to move forward with a plan that is more specific, clearer,
