This historic moment was celebrated with a traditional water cannon blast at Piarco International Airport. While the old adage “Leave the island at any time” continues to evoke memories, it’s new management is focusing on customer service and punctuality.

A new era for LIAT20

From left to right, those present at the ceremony were Kidus Melkamu, LIAT20 Operations Director, Hafsah Abdulsalam, Minister of Works and Transport, Rohan Sinanan, and Randall Mitchell, Minister of Tourism, Culture and the Arts. Hafsah Abdulsalam promised that, unlike LIAT’s previous acronym, which stood for “Leave Islands At Anytime”, this new airline is committed to providing services to its customers at the promised time.

A positive impact on the overhead network

Minister Rohan Sinanan welcomed the addition of LIAT20 to Trinidad and Tobago’s air network, underlining the importance of this link to Piarco International Airport’s position as a major regional hub. In his view, the presence of it is a symbol of the unity of the Caribbean and the resilience of its people.

An expanding network

It’s not limited to Trinidad and Tobago; it also flies to Jamaica and other destinations. Currently, the company serves Antigua and Barbuda, Saint Lucia, Barbados, Grenada, Dominica and Saint Kitts and Nevis. In January 2024, the LIAT (1974) service ceased operations, but LIAT20 is here to revitalize air transport in the region.
