MARTINIQUE: 53rd FORT-DE-FRANCE CULTURAL FESTIVAL

The 53rd Fort-de-France Cultural Festival, held from July 1 to 27, 2024, highlighted the richness and diversity of Martinican and international art under the theme of“Transcendence“. This edition featured an eclectic program of dance performances, visual arts, theater and music, bringing together artists of local and international renown.

The Closing Event: An Unforgettable Jazz Night

The festival ended on a high note with “Jazz Night”, an evening dedicated to jazzy rhythms featuring several international artists. This closing event was one of the highlights of the festival, offering the public an unforgettable musical experience. The gardens of Parc Aimé Césaire provided the backdrop for this magical evening, where jazz notes resonated under the stars, creating an atmosphere that was both intimate and festive.

Memorable performance

The “Jazz Night” evening was marked by unforgettable performances, offering audiences an exceptional musical experience. The evening was opened by the talented Guyanese singer Cannelle Mona Charles and her musicians, renowned for her captivating and emotive voice.  

The group from Martinique the quartet GMX and guest Magela Herrera then took over, revisiting tracks from their award-winning debut albums and presenting their “Solo/Duo” album.
Their performance added a local and contemporary touch to the evening.

The American jazz fusion group Yellowjackets, renowned for their innovative compositions and energetic performances, captivated the audience with their unique style.
Their presence was one of the highlights of the evening, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.

Finally, the renowned Cuban saxophonist and clarinetist Paquito D’Rivera closed the evening with his virtuosity and exceptional talent, enchanting the audience with his spellbinding music.

These artists, among others, contributed to making this closing evening an unforgettable moment, closing the festival on an exceptional note of jazz and conviviality.

The 53rd Fort-de-France Cultural Festival once again demonstrated Martinique’s cultural vitality.
With its emphasis on “Transcendence”, this edition succeeded in transcending artistic and cultural boundaries, offering intense moments of sharing and emotion.
The “Jazz Night” closed the festival on a high note, leaving participants with lasting memories and a desire to discover even more of Martinique’s cultural wealth.
